A couple weeks ago, I spent two days photographing a beauty pageant. But this beauty pageant was special! I'd only recently heard about their program, and I reached out, wanting to know how I could help. This year the pageant was held in Nampa, Idaho at the Nampa Civic Center.
And it really was AMAZING.
As I found out more about this organization, I knew I wanted to be a part of it! According to their website...
"For five years the Idaho Miss Amazing Pageant has been celebrating the multi-faceted identities, valuable abilities and strengths of girls and women with disabilities. Idaho Miss Amazing is so much more than a pageant. It is a platform for girls and women with disabilities to share their abilities and ambitions. It is an experience that inspires all people to empower themselves and each other."
"By encouraging its participants to dream big and reach their full potential, Idaho Miss Amazing proves that the world is a much better place when the talents and ambitions of all people are celebrated and valued."
Another thing I learned is that they hold these pageants all over the country, so if you are interested in volunteering, do a search and I'm sure you will find a way to help! I know many people volunteer as buddies- where you'll be partnered up with a contestant to stay with her throughout the day.
Find ways to be involved, do good in your community! Reach out and search for those opportunities to make a difference. This pageant changed me, and I had a great time getting to know these incredible girls and their brave spirits!
